The Oyo state Police Command, under successive, Commssioners of Police, is determined to shield some of its personnel, who have for long worked hand-in-gloves with some members of the public to intimidate, threaten, attack, blackmail and terrorize the Editor-In-Chief of The New Federation(news.emyspot.com)/

The officers and men attached to the Iyaganku Area Command and the Felele Police station, have always acted by proxy using  residents of Olorunsogo, Molete, who remain solidly behind their actions.

On two occasions, one of which was on Sunday, 25 May, 2008, Mrs. Koloko in connivance with the then Divisional Crime Officer(DCO) the Challenge Police station, Orita Challenge, facilitated the arrest of the journalist. While in the office of the DCO, the journalist was repeatedly threatened.

In another plot against the journalist,a letter titled” A Petition Against Solomon Adewumi” and dated 20 November, 2008, was received by the Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP), Iyaganku Area Command, Mrs. Abiodun Ige on 30 April, 2009.

On Saturday 9 May, 2009, Mrs. Ige ordered the arrest of Adewunmi on trumped up charges,through one Simon and four other heavily armed policemen from the same command. During the detention of the journalist for eight hours, the policemen repeatedly provided situation report to Mrs. Koloko through the phone.

Curiously, one Chukuwuma Joseph, Bola Adeniran and Mrs. Taiwo Owoeye, a pastor’s wife, who Adewunmi had reported a case of malicious damage against in August, 2008 at the Felele Police station, were now used as witnesses in the case generated by the Police.

Even though the worried journalist informed the then Commissioner of Police, Baba Adisa Bolanta, about this development through a letter titled”Attempts To Pervert Justice” and dated 11 May, 2009, and even made verbal protests, the police response was nonchalant.

Indeed, the letter was referred to the Provost Marshall’s office at the state police command, under the headship of a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Oseni and one Sergeant I.Oladejo was assigned to handle it. Surprisingly, both opted to cultivate a mutually beneficial relationship with those the letter was written against.

Now desperate to pervert justice, the police moved the duo out of reach, while Joseph Ale, another policeman attached to the Felele Police Station, who midwifed the forceful entry into an apartment in the journalist’s residence, was subtly given the go ahead to instigate Chukuma Joseph and four others against the journalist. Joseph Ale was the Investigating Police Officer(IPO) in a case of malicious damage reported by Adewunmi, in August, 2008.

Not done with their sinister plot, on Sunday 9 August, 2009, the police influenced a false report of threat to life by one Mrs. Olawoyin against the journalist at the Felele Police station. One Kehinde was assigned the case to investigate, but she compromised her position as a police rank and file. Mrs. Olawoyin’s husband, a cooperative officer with the Oyo state Ministry of Trade, Investment and Cooperatives, conspired with, a carpenter, Ale and some other policemen to forcefully gain entry into an apartment in Adewunmi’s residence, while he was being interrogated at the Iyaganku Area command.

 Although this was brought to the notice of the police, the headship of the Felele Police station decided to look the other way. The Edo born Divisional Police Officer (DPO) had always displayed signs of bias in handling cases brought before him concerning the journalist. Interestingly, the DPO has always maintained a symbiotic relationship with all those against the journalist.

In order to actualize a well scripted plot, the journalist was detained from 4.00pm in the evening to 9.30pm in the night, with plans to put him in the cell till the next day. This was, however thwarted by the then Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Bisi Okwuobi, who called the DPO to justify his action.

Although the journalist informed the Commissioner of Police of the incident in a letter dated 31 August, 2009 and titled ”Denial Of Justice”, and even met on two separate occasions with the Police Boss, mum was the word from the police.

Greatly disturbed by the attitude of the Oyo state Police Command, the journalist wrote a letter to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, zone11, Osogbo, Osun state, Yesufu Mohammed, titled ”INJUSTICE” and dated 3 December, 2009. After the IPO in charge of the case, one Inspector Odelade, took the statement of the journalist, various excuses characterized his subsequent reactions.

Again on Saturday 14, August, 2010, the same Chukwuma Joseph and his wife, Blessing, in connivance with some night guards in the Olorunsogo, Molete area, brought false allegations against the journalist, physically assaulted him and forcefully gained entrance into his apartment. Forty thousand naira cash and a number of his personal belongings were stolen. After which a report was made at the Felele Police station.

The same Joseph Ale, who has always played a role in the travails of Adewunmi was assigned the case. Ale took Chukwuma Joseph’s statement and conducted a search of the journalist’s apartment alongside the CRO of the police station. Also present were the night guards and the coordinator of the night guards.

Surprisingly, a plain paper without the Nigeria Police Force logo and name was presented as a search warrant. Indeed, Adewunmi’s request to be shown a search warrant, was met with a forceful entry of his apartment by the policemen. No search warrant was presented by the policemen.However, nothing incriminating was found in his apartment.

Again, another search was carried out on the journalist’s apartment, the same day, by Kehinde, another police man- Olayiwola Ibrahim, Chukwuma Joseph, a night guard and the coordinator of the night guards. Sadly, no search warrant was presented again, while some items were, secretly removed from his apartment. Again, nothing incriminating was found in the journalist’s apartment.

In quick succession, he was detained from 7.00am on that saturday morning, 14 august, 2010, until 2.00pm on Sunday, 15 August, 2010, and hurriedly arraigned before the Iyaganku magisterate court 7 on Monday, 16 August, 2010. With active connivance of the D.P.O OF the Felele Police Station, Adewunmi was remanded in the Agodi prisons for three days.

Again, he wrote a letter to the AIG, zone11 dated 23 August 2010 and titled”INJUSTICE PART 2”. In the letter, he recounted his experience in the hands of the police at the Felele Police station.

 However, the letter was referred to the Oyo state Police Command, which in turn sent it to the Criminal Investigation Department(CID), Iyaganku. The Investigating Police Officer, Femi Ajibade with the assistance of the journalist invited Chukuma Joseph and others mentioned in his petition. But curiously, after obtaining their statements, Ajibade only searched the apartment of the principal suspect, without visiting the scene of the incident and inviting another principal suspect, Blessing Chukuma.

On saturday, 8 october, 2011, at about 8.45pm, one Yemi Ajala of Kehinde Aderibigbe street, Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan attacked and robbed the journalist. The journalist reported the matter at the Felele police station the next morning. When the policewoman on duty would record the entry, she recorded assault as against the robbery the journalist reported. She said that the suspect’s brother, who is a Superintendent of Police and Divisional Traffic Officer of the Police Divisional Headquarters, Iyana Offa, was her ‘Oga’. Indeed the senior police officer eventually showed up at the station to bail the suspect. And eversince the authorities of the police station have refused to act on the matter.

Most recently, a man in his mid forties, Daniel Offiong, who rented a room in a three bedroom flat, pretended to be a taxi driver, to get the accommodation. Although his has a golf car, painted in Oyo state Taxi colours, he does not use it for that purpose.

 For long, the man, Offiong had been living a suspicious life, while receiving visitors, who are mostly ‘okada riders, in his apartment. Despite the fact that the journalist intimated the Divisional Crime Officer of the Felele Police station of the ways of the man, other considerations beclouded his sense of reasoning. These days Offiong and his cohorts hide motorcycles of suspicious origins in his apartment, with the knowledge of the Police.

While the Landlady of 5 Kehinde Aderibigbe street, Olorunsogo, Molete, has converted the journalist's residence to a refuse  and feaces dump.

Also  at No. 6 of the same street, Mrs. Adesanya(Mama Tobi) who once resided there, but now operates a grinding machine in the same address,  had on 30 December, 2015 alongside are family members at about 8.30pm in the night, attacked and robbed the journalist, on his way into his residence.

Interestingly, about five young men who reside at No. 4 of the same street, led by one Michael, on 21 December, 2018 at about 1.00 pm in the afternoon attacked the journalist, when he raised alarm on sighting the contents(arms and ammunition) they were putting into the boot of a Lexus salon car with tinted glasses. These young men have no visible means of livelihood, just as the residents in the community maintain criminal silence, when issues of these young men and their likes who are very many in the community are raised.

In addition, some hoodlums led by one Lekan and Segun  Adewale of No. 8 of the same street, attacked, robbed and injured the journalist during the same period, even as they boasted that the police were aware of their actions.

Indeed, the Landlords and Tenants Association Iin Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan, led by one Alhaji Adetayo, have for several years played criminally suggestive roles in the Journalist’s travails.

Indeed, most house owners in the community are not meticulous, when they want to take in tenants. This has resulted in the high population of people with questionable character in the community.

 Even, as majority of the youths have been brought up to take crime as a means to an end.

Till date, the Oyo state Police Command have devoted their energy towards ensuring that the journalist does not get justice.

The unanswered question now is, if the police is incapable of ensuring that a law abiding citizen such as the journalist gets justice, who does this helpless citizen turn to ?

In July 2005, the then Inspector General of Police Mr. Sunday Ehindero put in place a committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the alleged killing of five Igbo traders and their female friend by some policemen at the Apo  mechanic village, Abuja on June 7 of the same year.

However, the committee was  headed by, Mike Okiro, then a Deputy Inspector General  of Police.

 

However the committee was dissolved by the then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

 

The President hinged his decision on the fact that the Police could not be a Judge in its own case.

In addition, the President's action was predicated on the testimonies of a  photographer, hired by the Police in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) to take photographs of the lifeless bodies of the six Nigerians sent to their untimely graves. 

The photographer confessed that the police were responsible for the crime, as he stated that he saw the police bring guns and placed  by the side of the corpses of the six, to make them look like armed robbers, after which, the police ordered him to take their photographs.

 

The photographer further stated that, he could not believe his eyes, when he saw the Commissioner of Police of the Command, explaining to Nigerians that those killed were armed robbers, while making particular reference to the photographs. Such instances abound till today.

 

This development emboldened the President to put a stop to the Police investigation, to avert a situation whereby the outcome of the investigation would favour the Police.

 

Without hesitation, the President set up a Judicial Commission  of Inquiry to find out how the six were killed and the role of the police in the incident. 

 

Nigerians now realized that the action of the President, was an indication that he lacked confidence in the competence of  Ehindero, as Inspector General of Police.

 

Complainants are converted to accused persons at Police stations, when money exchange hands, just as criminals boast of their cordial relationships with compromised officers and rank and file of the force.

Corruption and inefficiency have become recurring decimals in the law enforcement agency, this has affected almost all senior officers, who have occupied the number one  position in the agency.

In this dispensation, Nigerians heaved a sigh of relief, when Ibrahim Idris assumed office as the Police Boss. They thought that they would soon begin to sleep with their two eyes closed This was not the situation, considering the manner the Police had handled several cases.

Sadly, for several years, there has been a disconnect between the IGP's office and the 36 state commands. This informed the establishment of special task forces by successive Inspectors General of Police to tackle crime nationwide.

Accusation of deprivation of funds and counter accusation of mismanagement of funds have characterized the relationship between the IGP's  office and the 36 state Police Commands.

Indeed, on issues bothering on corruption, the Police cannot be a Judge in its own case. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) is an anti-graft agency, with a number of policemen involved.

Indeed, the question of funding of the police still remains in the circle of administrative bottlenecks and the late release of funds by the Federal Government. Sabotage is now the order of the day. The insecurity in land addresses the question.

Of worry, is the communication lag between the office of the IGP and the Police Service Commission(PSC). The PSC is  not responsible for the appointment of the IGP.

Successive occupants of the IGP's seat have always been suspicious of any suggestion or advice emanating from  the commission.

Interestingly, some state governments, which are vigorously agitating for the establishment of state police, have taken advantage of the insecurity in the land to unleash terror on innocent citizens.

The predicament of the sole occupant of No. 3, Kehinde Aderibigbe street, Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo state, is a good example.

Despite  writing  a petition title death threats to the Commissioner of Police and the assignment of the petition to the Monitoring unit, conspiracy remains the disturbing term.

Those a petition was written against have been emboldened by the conspiratorial attitude of the Police, to intensify threats, intimidation and attacks on the occupant.

Their major aim is to pervert justice. 

However, state police cannot fly, in an environment filled with political office holders bereft of ideology and principles.

Nigerians should not be deceived by the activities of some selfish and greed-driven citizens, who continuously discredit the present  centralization of the  police structure, in favor of sectional interests and design.

Insecurity and the lack of due diligence

 Nigerians have expressed visible worries over the activities of criminals operating in commercial motorcycles, vehicles with tinted glasses, vehicles with foreign plate numbers, and vehicles without number plates.

They argue that most crimes in different parts of the country are committed through these motorcycles and vehicles and express surprise over the way the criminals beat the scrutiny of law enforcement agents along the road.

Innocent citizens who reside in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin City, Port Harcourt, Warri, Onitsha, Aba, Kaduna, Kano, and Abuja, among others, have continued to recount their tales of woe to whoever cared to listen.

Sadly, the law enforcement agents, saddled with the responsibility of ensuring law and order and the adherence to the road safety rules and regulations, have for long adopted a conspiratorial attitude, mainly because of the benefits that would accrue from aiding and abetting criminals.

Nigerians are now of the opinion that the laws of the land are either no longer functional or the law enforcement agencies are deliberately sabotaging the enforcement of the laws.

A victim of the worrisome state of insecurity in Ibadan, Nigeria, who spoke incognito, reveals his experience.

‘’There is a beer parlor opposite the Iyanganku Magistrate; it is among the several shops that share the same fence with the police barracks. A door inside the beer parlor leads into the barracks. Visit the beer parlor and observe those who patronize the beer parlor, and you will agree that those who break the law have the blessing of the persons whose statutory functions include the protection of lives and property, he stated.

The general feeling is that some criminally minded law enforcement agents make use of criminals as proxies in carrying out their statutory functions, which has resulted in the harassment, intimidation, and arrest of unsuspecting citizens.

Of worry is the adopted official status of lawlessness, indiscipline, and criminality in different parts of the country.

Indeed, illiteracy and ignorance have also contributed significantly to the scheme of things as presently constituted.

The mental psyche of millions of Nigerians has been dehumanized; this has resulted in unthinkable occurrences.

These occurrences have consumed a sizable chunk of those in charge.

The widespread, uninhibited prevalence of the lawless acts, to millions of Nigerians, is an indication that there is already a failure in leadership; with no visible remedy in sight for now.

Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan is among the several ungoverned communities in Oyo state.

Similarly, a harmless citizen has raised the alarm over death threats and continuous violent attacks on his person by hoodlums sponsored by family members.

In a letter titled DEATH THREATS addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Oyo state Police Command, the citizen (names withheld) stated, ''I humbly bring to your notice the death threats, I have been receiving from my brothers and sisters over our late father's house located at 3, Kehinde Aderibigbe street, Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan. On several occasions I have been attacked by hoodlums sent by my brothers and sisters. On all these occasions, I sustained serious injuries.''

Whoever, the petition was referred to the Monitoring unit of the state police command from the office of the Commissioner of Police on the 24th of April, 2026.

Sadly, after taking down the statement of the petitioner, the foot-dragging attitude of the Inspector in charge of the petition emboldened those who the petition was written against to intensify the threats on the petitioner's life.

Crime Incorporated

 Most communities in Oyo state among other states in Nigeria have been overwhelmed by criminals, a significant number of whom are residents.
These criminals take time to observe happenings in these communities from shops, beer parlors, hotels, and abandoned buildings in these communities after which they facilitate heinous and grievous crimes.
In Molusi, Solanke, Oyegbami, Oshodi, Olorunsogo, Barracks, Aluko, Felele, and several other communities in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, electricians, petty traders, barbers, commercial motorcycle operators, and mechanics and beer parlor operators secure accommodation for questionable characters, who no terrorize these communities.

Sadly, the Landlords and Tenants Associations in these communities know these criminals but overlook their criminal activities, perhaps because of the pecuniary benefits accruing to them. Although they ensure they facilitate the collection of night guards dues from residents with all vigor.
The outcome is the several unreported cases of crimes in these communities, while innocent residents continue to ponder over the constitutional roles of law enforcement agencies which seems to be non-existent.

In a society where justice and the rule of law prevails, the community leaders, members of the Landlords and Tenants Association, law enforcement agents(agencies), and residents of Olorunsogo, Molete, Molusi, Solanke, Oyegbami, Scout Camp,Aluko/Barracksand Felele communities in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria who sponsored hoodlums wielding stones, matchets, and iron rods to attack and injure a resident of 3, Kehinde Aderibigbe Street, Olorunsogo, Molete ought to be brought to justice.

Sadly, this is not the case.

In addition, those behind the vandalization and looting of 3, Kehinde Aderibiggbe Street, Olorunsogo, Molete are still walking the streets freely full of boasts and acting persistently with impunity. Why is this so? Perhaps, crime and criminality are now means to several ends for Those-in-Charge, who may have severed ties with the attributes of good and focused leadership.

Terrorists strike again in Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan vandalizing private property

Known terrorists in Olorunsogom, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria struck again on Monday 29^th June 2026 vandalizing a private property located at No. 3 Kehinde Aderibigbe street.

The criminals who are well known in the community operated unhindered fortwo hours, breaking open doors and windows.

Among them were one Segun Adewale, Lekan Adewale and Imole Adewale, in addition to their gang members based in Amoke mall and God glory store in the community.

Indeed, indiscipline, lawlessness, criminality, diabolism persists in the state as a result of the long-standing tacit approval from the state government.

Before this time, the terrorists had attacked the occupant of the vandalized building with iron rods, causing him life threatening body injuries.

Law enforcement in the community particularly in the community and the state generally is very weak due to the complicity of those who are supposed to protect lives and property.

Criminals continue their activities in Ibadan with impunity.

Criminals of South-South and South East extraction have continued to commit various crimes in Ibadan and other towns in Oyo state to the consternation of other non-natives.

This was made possible as a result of the carefree and lackadaisical attitude of the state government to security issues relating to criminals who hide under various guises.

Indeed, there has been an unregulated influx of people from different parts of the country in the past few years which has brought about strange occurrences revolving around criminality.

These criminals are brazen and bold, and commit crime with impunity, since the state government benefits immensely from illegal roadside traders, who are a very good source of revenue for the government.

The law enforcement agencies are not in opposition to the government in this regard.

On Monday, 21 July 2025, a resident of the state capital made a Point of Sale transfer of 10, 200 to the Monie Point Micro Finance Bank Account of one Rose Luke at the wheel balancing workshop a the Mobil Petrol station along the M.KO Abiola way(Ring Road)(Account Number:8255426214-wit Ref:*****72512) at 10:26:25 AM.

Surprisingly, after quickly deleting the transaction alert from her smartphone, she insisted that she did not receive any transaction alert.

Interestingly, the POS machine she displayed was not functioning.

Sadly, state government officials in uniform are on hand to protect the criminals, who are everywhere in the ancient city, including Mokola roundabout, Agodi Gate, Oje, Beere, Idi-Arere, Molete, Challenge, Orita among several others.

Expectedly, the criminals have gone to the extent of trailing, pedestrians who are not vigilant, and eventually robbing them of their personal belongings.

The situation is very disturbing, even though there is supposed to be a government in place

Indeed, the people continue to complain about the poor handling of security matters by the government.
