Violent Crimes- The Unseen Faces

Adolf Hitler labeled the extermination of the Jews in Europe' the final solution', while the military dictatorship in Argentina, which embarked on an unprecedented killing of its citizens, code named the same ''The process of National Integration''.

The activities of insurgents and armed herdsmen, which have claimed thousands of lives, are similar to the above-mentioned things.

Between 1976 and 1983, millions of citizens lost their lives in Argentina. Death squads operating under secret circumstances and under the cover of the state murdered about 11, 000 people, which are now described as ''The Disappeared''.

Two million people escaped persecution, while hundreds of babies born to ''The Disappeared'' were either sold, bartered or murdered.

Indeed, events in many states of Nigeria, including Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Borno among others, indicate that the government is fully aware of the insecurity, even as the killings continue. This calls for concern.

On March 23, 1976, General Jourge Videla, Head of the Argentine Army, overthrew the government of Isabelita Peron, a former nightclub dancer.

No civilian government had completed its tenure, except for Juan Peron's first term in office. General Videla hinged his action on the chronic inflation and high rate of unemployment that trailed Isabelita's government.

However, in Nigeria, a two term state governor calls the shots, even though the country still experiences obvious symptoms of economic downturn, mass unemployment, corruption and insecurity.

The Ejecrcito Revolcionario Del Pueblo(ERP) and the Montotneros took to kidnapping and killings.

This plunged Argentina into crisis. In Nigeria, kidnappings and killings have gone on unabated.

Political watchers put the blame at the doorstep of the present administration.

Nigerians are worried that the government has done nothing concrete and visible to ensure that the country does not slip into anarchy-aside from condolences.

In 2009, the Defense Minister of Madagascar, Cecile Manorantha, resigned her appointment on the grounds that she would not continue to be a part of a government that kills its people.

Also, the people of Madagascar vigorously opposed the attempts by President Marc Ravalomanana to lease one million acres of their land in the south of the country to a Korean firm, Daewoo, for intensive farming.

The people have deep ties to their land and consequently view the President's action as a betrayal. The same scenario is playing out in Nigeria.

The insecurity in the land has made foreign direct investment a mirage, while the disenfranchised and poor majority look to the uncertain future for reprieve.

The Drift of young people

Most public primary and secondary school students learn in environments that are not encouraging in Nigeria.

The facilities have been stretched to obsolete conditions as a result of improper planning by the government at all levels.

Considering the dilapidated toilet facilities in several of these schools and the absence of potable and drinkable water, the potential outbreak of an epidemic cannot be ruled out. Teachers are no longer dedicated to duty due to their nightmarish working conditions.

Cultism has taken root in most of these schools, while "armed robbers" in school uniforms dot the nooks and crannies of every part of the country.

Indeed, cultists, mostly young people, are now strategic stakeholders in elections in many states.

Of worry is the lack of sincerity on the part of the government in the implementation of programs and policies.

On the part of private schools, moral decadence, which is a major feature in public schools, is the issue, while examination malpractices and fraud are also noticeable signposts.

Furthermore, the attitude of the government and people in a number of states in the country downplays the reality of the rot in the education sector, while the poor state of several schools in these states, the non-availability of potable water, and the dilapidated facilities could expose students and teachers alike to serious health hazards.

Of worry also, is the fact that several communities in Nigeria are under siege by various categories of criminals.

The sight of young boys, in the midst of adults, smoking Indian hemp is now commonplace, majorly at primary schools without perimeter fencing.

In addition, young girls have now taken to prostitution on the prompting of their parents and guardians to make ends meet.

A visit to several beer parlors, "Ogogoro" joints scattered all over the country, should be instructive. Such communities include Molusi, Solanke, Oyegbami, Oshodi, Olorunsogo, Aluko/Barracks, Felele, Scout Camp, and others in Ibadan, Oyo State.

If an urgent step is not taken to salvage the almost hopeless situation, millions of Nigerian children may no longer have a place in a sane society.

The Absurd

Lawlessness, indiscipline, criminality, evil, ignorance, idleness, and illiteracy are the basic foundations of terrorism.

Presently, the upbringing of young people, strange doctrines, and very abnormal ways of life in several communities in Nigeria speak volumes.

Without doubt, the known and unknown conditions for breeding and training the unthinkable and avoidable have been met in communities such as Molusi, Onafuwa Solanke, Oyegbami, Olorunsogo, Molete, Aluko, Felele, and Scout Camp, among several others in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

A very careful observation will unearth the fact that a different strain of terrorism is gradually taking root in this part of Nigeria.

Children and young adults now commit crime under the watchful eyes of their parents and guardians, without consequences.

Learning may not be the primary focus in most schools presently, as immorality gains a solid root.

Cultism, prostitution, sodomy, homosexuality, pedophilia, rape, and the use of illicit drugs, among others, are now the norms everywhere.

The question is, what are the schools teaching the children?

The future is bleak for the affected young people.

Indeed, the parents, guardians, neighbors, and the leadership at all levels should be held responsible and accountable for the dangerous drift towards terrorist tendencies by this set of young people, who are known by all and sundry.

A manipulated Democracy

Peaceful change and superior honesty are two among the advantages of democracy.

However, the alteration of the truth brings about disillusionment among the people and the continuous worrisome bloodshed of human lives is reflecting negatively on governance.
All governments from time immemorial have been characterized by the twin evils of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.

In addition, laws are hurriedly enacted for the preservation of the rot in the system.

In dictatorships, the ruling party takes the position of the state, and ensures that the profession of a particular set of political opinions becomes the first qualification for those in the Civil and Public Service, rather than competence and honesty.

However, although governments are liable, there are weapons to fight it in a democracy which is suppressed in dictatorship's form is labeled Glieshaltung, unifying the state. This form of corruption is not removed by dictatorships, but remodeled.

Democratic governments, unlike dictatorships, have a moral claim on the allegiance of the people, but today in Nigeria, the impoverishment of the people is the foundation for the condemnable actions and inaction of the government.

Indeed, indiscipline, lawlessness, crime, all forms of criminality and evil are sign posts of daily life across the country.

Govt should take a second look at the recruitment into security agencies-Comrade Emelieze

The Federal government has been called upon  to urgently take a second look at the entire  process of recruitment and training of personnel of the various law enforcement and security agencies as a step towards ensuring  that the unbearable level of insecurity across Nigeria is nipped in the bud.

This call was made by the National Coordinator for the Federal Workers Forum, Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''The government should take urgent steps to carefully look into the processes of recruitment, training and postings of those in uniform as a step towards reversing the worrisome and disturbing spate of insecurity.

The government should take a second look on the processes that ensured that these personnel showcase the different uniforms of law enforcement and security agencies in a negative light.

These trained personnel of the various uniformed agencies in Nigeria have continued, without stop, to engage in forgery, perjury, extrajudicial killings and corruption in all forms among so many other absurdities.

Why is this so?

Perhaps, Illiteracy and ignorance are the two major reasons, when the leadership is found wanting, then things go absolutely wrong.
