In the present dispensation, the perpetual silence of certain political office holders is far from golden, but a grand conspiracy to enable wrongdoing to thrive.
Indeed, the structural imbalance, inequities and constitutional infirmity in the polity have so far, yet to be convincingly addressed.
In these perilous times, only personalities with courage and vision can salvage Nigeria, not those who rely on human sacrifice to cling onto transient power.
The lukewarm attitude and inertia of the so-called leaders in this period, gives flesh to the saying that the burial of a slave does not elicit joy and merriment from a living slave.
Nigerians continue to wonder why those elected to defend and protect their interests have been unable to do so.
The people wake up daily to be confronted by pervasive insecurity, hunger, abject poverty, joblessness and a very high level of illiteracy.
A famous Greek philosopher, Anarchasis stated long ago that ‘’ laws are like cobwebs, strong enough to detain the weak and too weak to hold the strong’’’.
This suitably describes the present situation in the Federal Republic.
Indeed, political dissatisfaction and social discontent have become visible threats to Nigeria’s democracy.
Sadly, the economic reforms of those-in-charge on the pivot of subsidy removal and the increases in the prices of petroleum products have aggravated the subdued anger of Nigerians.
Millions are jobless and cannot afford three square meals a day neither can they pay for the tuition fees of their children and wards in schools and tertiary institutions.
However, it is disturbing that virtually all the institutions that should constitutionally sustain democracy are working assiduously to scuttle it, since the odds are against those that dictate the tune for the piper.
